Rules and Regulations

Every resident is required to attend the life skills or Bible study classes held at the House Where Jesus Shines,

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from12:00 p.m. to1:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. 

 Residents are required to attend Church of the Open Door on Wednesdays and Sundays. 

Transportation will be provided.

Every resident is required to have a full-time job.  We will provide assistance in finding employment.  Residents should be employed within 5 days of arrival. 

 Exceptions will be handled on a case by case basis.

Failure to maintain employment may result in dismissal from the House Where Jesus Shines.

Every resident is required to clean his own designated area and to help in the cleaning of all common areas in the House. 

Saturday mornings are often designated as the time for doing extra cleaning in the residents’ rooms.

All residents are required to have lights out by 10:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and lights out by 11:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

All residents are required to attend nightly dinner with the other residents.

 Dinner will be served from 6:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., make sure you come and get your food.

Each resident is required to furnish his own personal hygiene items with allowance. 

 Any other special needs required by a resident will be discussed with the Director.

Residents are allowed to use the House Where Jesus Shines telephone only in an emergency, or with permission.

Visitations are scheduled on Saturdays between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

 Visitation can only be with immediate family (mother, father, brother, sister, children). 

 Visitors are not allowed in residents’ rooms. If married we must see your marrige certificate.

Any female visitors must have birth certificate as proof of family.

After completing the first month, day passes may be allowed. 

The passes are issued for time with family members only. (Two passes a month only.)

Wal-Mart and Laundry day are on Sundays between church services, assign vans will be posted on board.

Any unsettled disagreements between residents may be addressed through discussion with the Director.

Everyone will be fully clothed between wake-up and bedtime hours.

All reading material is subject to approval by the Director.

The Director must approve any room assignment changes.

Personal listening devices with headphones are allowed.

Only designated drivers are allowed to drive the House Where Jesus Shines vehicles.

Absolutely no smoking is allowed in the House, enclosed recreation areas or House vehicles.

No open food is allowed in individual residents’ dorm rooms.

All residents are required to bathe daily and maintain proper personal hygiene.

Any drinking of alcohol, illegal drug use, not turning in all income as set out on page 5, item # 5,

 aggressive behavior, intimidating behavior, leaving the premises without permission

 or receiving three write-ups will result in dismissal from the program.

Drug testing is performed at the Director’s discretion.

No profanity is allowed in the House.

All residents will attend all major Church of the Open Door functions.

Dating relationships with females are not allowed while at the House.

No large rugs, TVs, stereos, clock radios, DVD players, refrigerators, etc. are allowed in the dorm rooms. 

No excess furniture is allowed in the dorm rooms.  Prohibited items confiscated will not be returned.

 All extra clothing, etc., must be placed in plastic storage bins under the bed.

No vehicle ownership is allowed until graduation.

 If you decide to stay beyond graduation and purchase a vehicle, you must park it at the church and turn in your keys.
